Abstract
One of the materials that can be used to mix concrete paving blocks is to use the remaining coal combustion, namely fly ash. With this high silica content, it allows coal ash to meet the criteria as a material that has the properties of cement / pozzolan so that it can be used to reduce the amount of cement as a concrete building material for example in the paving block manufacturing industry. The method of concrete paving blocks making is conducted mechanically using a machine (press) and manually. This research was also conducted to determine the composition of cement and press pressure which are optimal in making concrete paving blocks so as to obtain better quality concrete block paving. The research results showed that the optimal compressive strength of manual concrete paving blocks (PBB manual) was obtained on manual concrete paving blocks (PBB manual) 30% split stone with 25% fly ash content which was 27.76 MPa (quality B). Meanwhile the optimal compressive strength of press concrete paving blocks (PBB press) was obtained on press concrete paving blocks (PBB press) 30% split stones with 35% fly ash content which was 27.58 MPa (quality B) while in the calculation of water absorption can be concluded that there is an increase in water absorption against concrete paving blocks. This might be due to concrete paving blocks with the addition of 1mm-2mm split stones making the paving blocks have small cavities inside.
