Abstract

Currently the development of mobile phone is not only functioned as a means of voice communication or messaging only. As the era progresses, mobile phones and smartphones have provided integrated Global Positioning System (GPS) devices in handsets. For smartphone users whose handsets already support GPS, users can know their current position and look for a specific place by utilizing this technology. Location-Based Service (LBS) utilizes GPS technology in its application. In addition to being able to know the position of the user, the LBS application can also determine the position of certain places. If a user can maximize this technology then he should not be afraid of getting lost or losing direction if traveling to an area that is still foreign to him or her. The purpose of writing this thesis is to produce a mobile application that can know and display the user's position with certain places. In this case the author uses the Android mobile operating system for the installation of his application. The application integrates with google map services in determining the path between a user and a place. Android provides access to GoogleMap services, making it easier for developers to create and develop location-related apps. Keywords: Android, GPS, LBS
