Abstract
Language is an important factor in communication. A politeness strategy is a method used by someone to convey the purpose of his/her speech more politely. In conversation between humans, we can observe a politeness strategy. This study aims to find out the types of politeness strategy and the most dominant type of politeness strategy. It is a descriptive qualitative research. The writer used note taking and observation techniques as media for data collection. To answer the first question, the writer mentioned data on politeness strategies and classified them based on the politeness strategies theory by Brown and Levinson. To answer the second question, the writer calculated the presented accuracy of the types of politeness strategies in the talk show and determined the most dominant. This study acquired two important findings in Sule’s Ini Talk Show in the last episode of Ini Ramadan. First, there are two types of politeness strategies, namely positive politeness which consists of 17.39% of strategy 1; paying attention to interests, desires, goods, 4.34% of strategy 2; interpretation, approval, sympathy with listeners, 34.78% of strategy 5; seeking agreement, 4.34%: avoiding disputes, 30.43% of strategy 8; jokes, 4.34% of strategy 15; giving gifts to the listeners such as goods, sympathy, understanding, cooperative attitude and negative types politeness strategies which consist of strategy 2 such as not assuming a willingness to comply, question, and hedge. The second finding is the most prevalent type of politeness strategy in the talk show is strategy 5; seeking a deal.
