Abstract

This study is conducted to analyze grief in Cheryl Strayed that experienced grief by the death of her mother and how the grief affects another losses.. There are two problems analyzed in this study: (1) kind of grief does the Cheryl Strayed face (2)How she faces her grieving. The writer uses Kubler-Ross theory to analyze grief that experienced by the main character, and also the grief in recovery theory by William Worden to analyze how Cheryl recovers from her grieving. The data were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method which focuses on the analysis of textual data. The data were collected by reading the novel repeatedly, reading some related refereces to observe the theory, taking notes of important data, arranging the data, classiying the important data, and drawing the conclusion. The analysis of this research results in some findings. The writer finds other losses that are caused by her grief by the death of her mother. There is the similarity of The Five Stages of Grief by Kubler Ross theory and the Grief Recovery stages by William Worden that Cheryl Strayed experienced. The analysis and findings of this research show that Cheryl Strayed passes stages of grief and finally recovered from her grief.
