Abstract

This chapter aims to see the implication of "bride price" of the Bugis Wedding tradition in South Sulawesi. The tradition on one side may help bride side to run the wedding as the way it should be. However, on the other side, it could burden the groom side because the groom's family should prepare much money to fulfill the total amount which is asked by the bride side. Therefore, it is really necessary needed to conduct a research on this topic using socio-anthropological approach by looking at the empirical socio-cultural phenomena on the Bugis wedding tradition. Interview and literature study were used as techniques of data collection to see the implication of "bride price" on the Bugis wedding tradition. To reach the aims, the researchers explores several connected aspects, they are: the brief history of the Bugis and its marriage concept. Finally, this chapter explores the data analysis on the implication of “bride price” on the Bugis wedding tradition in South Sulawesi.
