Abstract

This study aims to examine the main character's personality in Ready Player One, as well as the types and their effects on the character's development. This study uses an objective approach to analyze films with their intrinsic elements and uses the theory of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud to analyze character development. The writer's method for analyzing the film is to repeatedly watch Ready Player One in order to collect data on the character development throughout the story. The way to get data is to review and mark each scene of the conflict that occurs and then how the main character will respond; the conflict is then selected and shaped using psychoanalytic theory. From the results of the data collected, it shows that the main character uses his anxiety to create denial and sublimation. His development was caused by the deaths of his parents, aunts, and uncles, which contributed to his lack of affection. Keywords: Anxiety, Character development, Psychoanalytic
