Abstract

The purpose of this research is study the imagery of freedom used in Viktor Frankl’s autobiography entitled Man’s Search For Meaning. There are two problems that the writer proposed, those are whether freedom imagery is used in the autobiography and whether the imagery devices used are meant to express freedom. The writer uses Objective theory proposed by Abrams to help him with the study because he needs to understand the autobiography as a work separated from other aspect and examine only the intrinsic elements of the autobiography. The research method used is qualitative method in which the main source of the study is the autobiography. This study finds Viktor Frankl has used imagery in interesting ways to portray his dream to be free from a lot of things that experienced when he was in the Nazi concentration camp, starting from the moment he came until the time he got out alive. Keywords : freedom, imagery, autobiography, interestingly
