Abstract
The purpose of this research is to understand the process Virginia Shreves goes through in facing challenges related to self-confidence. Virginia Shreves is the main character in Carolyn Mackler's novel. The writer begins this research by formulating three questions. First, why does Virginia Shreves feel insecure. Second, how does Virginia undergo her life with insecurity. The third, how does Virginia come to the state and confidence. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with the novel as the primary data source. The writer employs Objective Theory to aid in data collection and analysis and Albert Bandura's self-efficacy Theory to understand actions and attitudes as depicted in the novel. The study finds that Virginia is portrayed as an individual who never feels secure in her abilities, feels inferior compared to her seemingly perfect siblings, and is never satisfied with her body shape. However, over time, Virginia gains the courage to change her appearance, express herself, and face life's challenges. The writer applies self�efficacy Theory and examines Virginia Shreves' actions and behaviors in the novel.
