Abstract
This research entitled “Analysis of the Symbols Discovered by the Main Character in The Alchemist Novel”. This final paper discusses the symbols discovered by the main character in The Alchemist novel. The purposes of this research are to find out the symbols and the meaning in every symbol, and to find out the positive and negative impacts of the symbol on the main character. The symbols in this novel have 15 signs, namely: the sycamore tree, the old woman, the king of Salem, the stone, the butterfly, the bar owner, the thief, the crystal merchant, Fatima, the hawks, The Alchemist, the desert, the wind, and the sun. the symbols are discussed using semiotics theory by Ferdinand de Saussure and the sign theory by Djajasudarma. This research uses qualitative methods. The reason for using qualitative methods because there is a process of analyzing. The data that used in this research is from The Alchemist novel. The results of the research shows 15 signs and their meaning, the impacts and the things that happen in the main character’s life
