Abstract

This research aims to analyze the obsession for revenge in Hamlet’s as a main character in the play. The first objective is to clarify the underlying reasons behind Hamlet’s obsessive desire for revenge. The second objective aims to discuss how Hamlet embody his obsession of revenge. This research uses an objective approach that focuses on the literary work. The author uses a qualitative research method to provide a more depth description of the topic. This research using Sigmund Freud's theory of psychoanalysis to analyze the aspects that affect Hamlet's behavior and personality. This study is conducted by employing library research method; thus the writer collects data by reading and annotating the text. The result of analysis shows that the reason behind Hamlet’s obsession for revenge is based on a feeling of injustice. Hamlet embodies his obsession by killing his uncle and fulfills his promise to his father
