Abstract

This final paper analyzes figurative language in Kina Beats' album Things I Wanted to Tell You lyrics. It aims to identify the types of figurative language used, determine the most dominant type, and explore its functions within the lyrics. Using Perrine's theory as the analytical framework, this study employs a qualitative research method to examine six selected songs from the album. The findings reveal six types of figurative language in the lyrics: hyperbole, metaphor, paradox, simile, metonymy, and personification. Among these, hyperbole is the most frequently used, appearing in 14 items (14%), followed by metaphor (11 items, 11%), paradox (7 items, 7%), simile (4 items, 4%), metonymy (2 items, 2%), and personification (1 item, 1%). The study concludes that Kina Beats primarily utilizes figurative language to enhance the emotional depth of his lyrics, create vivid imagery, engage listeners' imagination, strengthen thematic expression, and increase the aesthetic appeal of his songs. This research contributes to understanding how figurative language enhances lyrical meaning and emotional expression in contemporary music. The findings can be a reference for language learners, educators, and music analysts interested in exploring linguistic creativity in song lyrics. Future studies may extend this analysis to other artists or examine the impact of figurative language on listeners' interpretation of song lyrics.
