Abstract

This study examines the articulatory phonetic features found in the lyrics of The Black Parade album by My Chemical Romance. (1) The aim of this research is to identify and analyse the most dominant types of articulatory features found in the lyrics of the album, and (2) to explain the reason behind the dominance of such features based on articulatory phonetics. This study utilizes a descriptive qualitative method which presents data through the transcription of the lyrics into IPA symbols and classification of consonant sounds based on articulatory feature theory. (1) The features analysed include place of articulation, manner of articulation, and voicing, categorized into plosive, fricative, nasal, approximant, and lateral approximant. (2) The study also explores how these articulatory features influence the singer's vocal delivery in expressing emotional and musical meaning. The analysis is based on the articulatory theory proposed by Ladefoged & Johnson.
