Abstract

This study, entitled Improving Students Vocabulary Through Songs, is aimed to improve students vocabulary through song in XI Grade Accounting and Motorcycle Mechanic Program of SMK Muhammadiyah Berbah. This study is a classrom action research with two cycles. Pre test was done to find the students’ entry behavior. While a post test was conducted after each cycle to find the vocabulary mastery improvement. The data were taken from the students’ pre-test, post-test, interview and observation. The result of the study showed that teaching to improve vocabulary using song was effective. In pre-test, there were eleven (55%) students classified into very poor category. However, post-test 1, conducted after Cycle 1, showed that, the number of students belonging to poor categiry decreased to nine (45%). The trend continued to the the next cycle. Post-test after Cycle 2 showed that there were seven students or 35 % categorized as very poor. It can be inferred that this activity can succesfully improve students vocabulary mastery. Data from interview and observation also revealed that students were able to memorize vocabulary more easily and most of students were enthusiastic and active in learning process.
