Abstract
This research aims to find out the students’ ability in writing imaginative recount text using Indonesian folklore and the factors influencing their ability. The participant of this research is tenth grade students majoring in Computer Network Engineering at SMKN 1 Tempel in the academic year 2020/2021, consisting of 22 students. This research was quantitative research data with descriptive statistical approach as the research design. The data were collected through imaginative recount text writing test and questionnaire. Imaginative recount text writing test was used to collect the data related to the students’ ability in writing imaginative recount text using Indonesian folklore; and the questionnaire was used to find out the factors that influencing students’ ability in writing imaginative recount text using Indonesian folklore. The questionnaire consists of 20 questions. The result of this research shows the mean score of students’ ability in writing imaginative recount text using Indonesian folklore is 64.01 or fair, which that ability influenced by (1) the high level of interest of students to read Indonesian folklore: (2) Indonesian folklore is easy to understand; (3) there is basic knowledge about Indonesian folklore since childhood: (4) the lack in understanding about text structure of imaginative recount text; (5) the lack in understanding about language features of imaginative recount text.
