Abstract

This study is conducted to analyze the supremacy of ego onto id and superego in Nightcrawler. There are three problems analyze in this study: (1) kind of dominant ego of Louis Bloom, the main character of the movie; (2) the reason why Louis Bloom’s ego oppress his id and super ego; (3) Louis Bloom’s superego contribution in handling his ego. The writer uses Sigmund Freud theory (personality theory) to analyze the supremacy of Louis Bloom ego. The data were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method which focuses on the analysis of textual data. The data were collected by reading the script of the movie repeatedly, watching the movie, reading some references related to the theory and the movie, taking note of important data, arranging the data, classifying the important data, and drawing the conclusion. The analysis of this research results in some finding. The writer finds Louis Bloom dominant ego tends to be embodied into negative behaviors; they are stealing, threatening, killing, denying, deceiving, plotting, torturing, and also selling. The reason why Louis Bloom ego oppress his id and superego are because of social demands, rejection by other characters, desperation and his own obsession. Louis Bloom’s superego contributions in handling his ego are also shown in the movie. Key words: Nightcrawler, movie, supremacy, id, ego, superego, Louis Bloom, Personality Theory.
